TURF is looking for full-time design engineer with a minimum of 1-3 years of industry experience in the field of architecture, interior design/interior architecture or industrial design.  We are an architectural product company, focused on acoustic ceilings. The ideal candidate is flexible, technically-oriented and has a general understanding of manufacturing processes.  They work with design and production teams in the of manufacturing of custom architectural solutions. They create spec drawings that reference client-supplied drawings and ultimately produce a production-ready design for CAM manufacturing.

This role includes architectural/product design and some project management skills.  

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Convert shop drawings, specs, and working project geometry into production ready-cut files.
    • Responsible for nesting parts for jobs to ensure accuracy in shop
  • Control the quality of productions and solutions moving through the shop for larger and more custom architectural projects
    • Execute quality control measures at several checkpoints
      • Review Shop Drawings for accuracy
      • Check nested cut files
      • Review initial ZUND cut results for large jobs
      • Review first parts as they become assembled
      • Review entire job quality prior to packaging
      • Inspect the packaging of job prior to it being sealed
  • Generate CSI specs from existing templates.
  • Produce paperwork
    • Produce pack-lists for each job
    • Produce digital copies of nested cut files
  • Work closely with Production and Project Management to ensure project is executed per our agreed-upon contract with client.

Crucial for Success:

  • Consistency of Method we are documenting and updating our processes daily, striving for consistency
  • Push back or revise anything from designers that is not properly organized this is the only way to eliminate sloppy habits
  • Sense of Urgency quantity and quality are equally important.
    • Getting jobs through the PE process as quickly as possible is critical to keeping our commitment to lead times and providing Production with consistent work.


  • Minimum 1-3 years in of architecture related experience. 
  • Comfortable in high tolerance CAD/CAM production via CNC as well as the production of relevant shop drawings. 
  • Experience with digital fabrication techniques as well as CNC and/or prototyping experience is a must.

Education:  Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Interior Architecture or a related field. MA preferred, but not required.

Knowledge & Competencies:  Ability to read and translate construction documents, ideation and form development, knowledge of materials and manufacturing process, hands-on experience in mock-ups, prototyping & mechanical aptitude.

Skills:  High proficiency in Rhino 3D required. Experience with Revit/AutoCad valued.
